Clarke Wyatt Instructor biography

Born in Texarkana Texas

Raised in East Texas and Kansas City, Missouri

Began music studies at age five

Plays banjo, piano, cello, and guitar

Studied music at Goddard College


  • Plays fingerstyle old time banjo as well as bluegrass and contemporary approaches

  • Teaches workshops and private banjo, piano, and music theory lessons

  • Teaches to all right hand techniques: two finger, three finger, and clawhammer


Core concepts of banjo education:

  • Banjo as a Musical Instrument

  • Respect the melody

  • There's no such thing as banjo law

  • Find your own sound


Performs with partner Betse Ellis as the duo Betse and Clarke
Notable recent performances include Grand Targhee Bluegrass Festival, John Hartford Memorial Festival, Portland Old Time Gathering, St. Joseph Symphony Orchestra (banjo with a symphony, yeah!), official showcase artist at Folk Alliance International 2015 & 2017, Ozark Folk Center with Betse and Clarke and Violet Hensley
